Medhu Vada is an absolutely necessary part of the menu in South India on festive days.

Step 1 :

In a bowl, soak urad dhal for 2-3 hours.

Step 2 :

Grind it by adding water in portions. Ensure not to pour excess water.

Step 3 :

The batter should now be a thick paste. Add, chopped onions, green chilly, curry leaves, coriander leaves, pepper powder, jeera, hing, salt and rice flour.

Step 4 :

Mix the batter well with all these ingredients.

Step 5 :

Heat oil in a pan, pat the batter on a banana leaf, make a flattened patty like structure out of it and insert a hole in the middle using a finger.

Step 6 :

Fry it till it turns light brown in color.

Step 7 :

Once it is done, transfer it to plate and serve it hot with coconut chutney.
