Skeleton Apple Pie

Nothing says fall like the smell of apples and cinnamon in the air. And nothing screams Halloween like a scary face in every sweet treat! Halloween may be a time of indulgence, but it doesn't have to come at the cost of your health. This delicious Skele-Apple Pie will satisfy your sweet tooth and give you a fright when you're sneaking a snack at midnight! Beware! You won't be able to resist a second slice!

Skeleton Apple Pie

Step 1 :

Sieve flour and mix in salt. Cut cold butter into cubes. Whisk the egg with ice water.

Step 2 :

Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 3 :

Slowly add the beaten egg to the mixture until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough.

Step 4 :

Flatten the dough into a rectangle, cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

Step 5 :

Meanwhile, make the pie filling. Chop the apples into bite-sized pieces.

Step 6 :

In a pan, combine the apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

Step 7 :

On a low heat, cook the apples until they are tender and the sugar has dissolved. Let the filling cool to room temperature, then remove the whole piece of clove.

Step 8 :

Remove the chilled dough and keep it at room temperature for 5 minutes until it is soft enough to roll. Ensure the dough stays chilled throughout the rolling process.

Step 9 :

Roll and line your pie tin with the dough to form the crust. Roll out more dough and cut into a circle for the top. Cut the eyes, make small slits for the nose and mouth.

Step 10 :

Poke holes in the bottom crust with a fork and bake at 180° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 11 :

Once baked, remove the pie crust from the oven and let it cool. Fill with the apple pie filling and cover with the face piece.

Step 12 :

Enjoy warm with a scoop of ice cream!
