Ingredients

Cake:

1 Cup Butter (set aside 1 tsp for greasing) 1 Cup Sugar (powdered)

3 nos. Eggs 1 tsp Orange liquor or you can opt for a brandy or orange juice

2 Cup All-purpose flour 1 tsp Baking powder

1 tsp Baking soda 1.25 Cup Sour cream

1 nos. Whole orange (rind grated) 1 Cup Chopped walnuts

Topping:

0.5 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Orange juice

0.3 Cup Orange liquor or you can opt for a brandy 0.5 Cup Almonds (thinly sliced)

Homemade orange liquor:

0.25 Cup Orange zest 1 Cup Brandy

1 Cup Vodka 4 nos. Cloves

2 Cup Sugar 2 Cup Water

Cooking Steps

Method:

Step 1 :

Preheat oven to moderate 350 degrees F.

Step 2 :

Take a bowl and beat butter with sugar until fluffy.

Step 3 :

Take a small bowl and start beating the egg yolks one at a time (this helps keep the texture of the cake light).

Step 4 :

Add the liquor or orange juice and mix gently.

Step 5 :

Sift flour, baking powder, and baking soda into a bowl.

Step 6 :

Then toss it into the butter mixture and combine.

Step 7 :

Then add sour cream little by little till it all blends in well and turns creamy.

Step 8 :

Sprinkle grated rind of orange and chopped walnuts.

Step 9 :

Beat the separated egg whites till form stiff peaks or hold shape. Fold into the batter mix.

Step 10 :

Take a rectangular pan and grease it. Layer it with baking paper and pour the batter.

Step 11 :

Bake for an hour (Check after 45 minutes to see how the cake is cooked, you can take a call to increase or decrease the minutes of baking post that).

Step 12 :

For the flavour to stay, make sure not to overbake and dry the cake.

Step 13 :

Now for the sweet drizzle, mix sugar powder, orange juice and liquor or more orange juice and mix.

Step 14 :

Pour it gently over the hot cake taken out of the oven.

Step 15 :

Sprinkle with almonds and set aside to cool.

Homemade orange liquor:

Step 1 :

Mix all the ingredients except the clove. Cover and set it aside for 15-20 days. During the last week, add the cloves, stir and let it sit for a minimum of 3 days.

Step 2 :

The cake is already juicy and sweet, but if you prefer a more soaked and sweeter one, you can caramelize the top (Boil equal parts sugar and water on a high flame till they combine and turn lightly golden and sticky).
