A traditional dish of Punjab, the sarson ka saag and makkiki roti combination is both tasty and nutritious.

For Sarson ka saag
Step 1
:
Clean, wash and cut the sarson and palak roughly.
Step 2
:
Heat oil in a cooker. Add jeera, onion, ginger, garlic and green chilly. Fry till the onion changes its colour. Now add the sarson, palak, salt, turmeric and water. Cover the lid and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
Once it cools down, grind the saag coarsely in a blender.
Step 3

Add makki ka atta to the saag and cook on slow flame for 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 4

Just before serving, heat ghee and add hing and red chilli to it. Mix it with the saag.
Step 5

Serve hot with makkiki roti.
For Makkiki roti
Step 1
:
Make a soft dough with all the ingredients except oil. Make small balls and roll each one into a thick a chapatti.
Step 2
:
Cook it on a flat tawa using oil on both sides.
