Fish Biryani

Craving for a biryani? But find it too elaborate to cook? Then you must try the Hyderabadi style Fish Dum Biryani. It is usually cooked with the KohinoorExtra Long Grain basmati and chicken, mutton or lamb. But you could substitute fish for chicken and have an amazing biryani to relish over the weekend.

Ingredients

For Cooking Rice

For Fried Fish

For Biryani

For Saffron Milk

Cooking Steps

Preparation

Step 1 :

Wash and soak Kohinoor Extra Long Grain Basmati Rice for 30 minutes.

Step 2 :

Now boil lots of water with all the ingredients given for cooking rice.

Step 3 :

Add the soaked rice in the water and cook it for 8 to 10 minutes.

Step 4 :

Drain it in a colander and set aside.

Step 5 :

Mix saffron with warm milk and set aside to steep.

Step 6 :

Marinate the fish in the ingredients given for 30 minutes.

Step 7 :

Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan

Step 8 :

Add the fish pieces in this oil and cook them for 5 minutes on each side.

Step 9 :

Remove them to a plate.

Step 10 :

In the remaining oil, add bay leaves and fry them for few minutes.

Step 11 :

Add in sliced onions, green chili and saute for 5 minutes.

Step 12 :

Once the onion is cooked, add in ginger-garlic paste and saute for a min.

Step 13 :

Now add in all the spice powders and mix them for 30 seconds.

Step 14 :

Add in tomatoes and a splash of water.

Step 15 :

Cook this for 5 minutes till tomatoes are mashed completely.

Step 16 :

Add in salt, mint leaves, coriander leaves and curd.

Step 17 :

Mix well.

Step 18 :

Cook this for 5 minutes till the masala is completely cooked.

Step 19 :

Now spoon the cooked rice on top, add some more coriander and mint leaves.

Step 20 :

Drizzle over some saffron milk and place the fish pieces on top of the rice.

Step 21 :

Cover this whole thing and place over a heavy bottom iron tawa.

Step 22 :

Put this tawa on low heat.

Step 23 :

Let this whole thing be on dum for 15 to 20 minutes

Step 24 :

Open the lid and mix everything up.

Step 25 : Serve with

Relish the biryani with raita.
