Maher, a traditional Bihari dish made with rice and buttermilk, brings the warmth of family memories and the flavours of a grandmother's kitchen to every spoonful.

For Tadka:

Cooking Steps

Maher:

Step 1 :

Wash the rice thoroughly 2-3 times.

Step 2 :

Now, in a pot, mix buttermilk and water, then place it on the stove.

Step 3 :

When the buttermilk starts boiling, add the washed rice, along with salt and ghee, and stir well.

Step 4 :

Add green chili-ginger paste, cumin powder, and black pepper powder.

Step 5 :

Cook the rice on medium heat until it becomes soft.

Step 6 :

Stir it occasionally (use a rolling pin instead of a spoon for stirring).

Step 7 :

Turn off the stove.

For Tadka:

Step 1 :

In a pan, heat mustard oil, and when it's hot, add panch phoran and asafoetida. Cook until aromatic.

Step 2 :

Pour the tempering into the pot of cooked maher. Decorate with some rose petals.

Step 3 :

Your maher is now ready to serve!
